2022 1 oz Silver Eagle Design

The US Mint introduced the American Silver Eagle coins in 1986. Ever since the coin’s release, it has quickly become a favorite among precious metals investors and coin collectors alike.

For the coin’s obverse, the Mint opted to revamp one of the most popular designs in American coinage history: the Walking Liberty, conceived by sculptor Adolph A. Weinman in 1916 for the Half Dollar coin. The design had been discontinued in 1947 but made a glorious return to the Silver Eagle program.

With robes blowing in the wind, Lady Liberty strides forward, carrying an oak branch on her left arm, symbolizing the country’s pride and strength. The rising sun is visible on the mountainous horizon in the background, signifying the land of new opportunities. Her right arm is stretched forward with the American flag wrapped around her shoulders.

On the outer rim above, we see the word “LIBERTY,” and the mint year is on the bottom. On the right face of the design, we can read the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST.” The bullion version does not have a mint mark.
