The Design of 1 oz american silver eagle coin
American Silver Eagles have always carried the national pride imprinted on the coin’s designs. Lady Liberty, who stamps the obverse side, is the feminine personification of the nation. And in “The Walking Liberty” image, created by Adolph A. Weinman and used since the launch of the program in 1986, Lady Liberty has the American flag draped on her shoulder, oak branches on one arm, and the other arm is stretched in a welcoming sign. The sun’s rays shine in the background while she walks. The word “LIBERTY” is on the upper rim, and the motto “In God we trust” is on the lower left, with the year of issue on the bottom.
The coins from 1986 to 2021 bear the original reverse design, a heraldic eagle grasping olive branches and arrows with its talons, symbolizing the country’s readiness for war but a desire for peace. This design was a creation of John Mercanti.
In the second half of 2021, the US Mint released a new reverse design showcasing the bald eagle, a national symbol of freedom, in a more natural environment. Artist Emily Damstra brought a more realistic depiction of the bird, flying with open wings and carrying some branches in its talons. Besides the usual face value, weight, and metal content inscriptions, the motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM” appears on the lower right, above the metal content description.
