The Design
The Gold Maple Leaf Single-Sourced Coin carries the same standard design stamped on its series counterparts.
The obverse depicts the former monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, in a more mature right profile. The inscriptions surrounding Her Majesty’s effigy are: “ELIZABETH II” on the upper rim, followed by “50 DOLLARS”, standing for the denomination, and “2022” for the year of issuance on the bottom.
The reverse features Walter Ott’s Maple Leaf design. The inscriptions are in the official national languages, regarding the coin’s weight, metal content, and purity. “CANADA” arches the leaf on the upper rim while “9999” lies on both sides. On the bottom, “FINE GOLD,” “1 OZ OR PUR.”
Two important marks are present on this side. The globe cradling hand is the Single Source privy mark, representing the responsible extraction made in a unique mining operation. And the laser engraved mini-maple leaf with a “22” encased, standing for the RCM Bullion DNA Technology applied to the coin.
The Gold Maple Leaf Single-Sourced Coin
The gold used to mint these coins come from the Agnico Eagle’s Meliadine mine in Nunavut, Canada. This mine is the nation’s leading producer of gold and the world’s third overall.
Since its foundation in 1957, the company has been committed to environmental responsibility and maintaining a positive impact in the communities where it works.
The gold used to mint the Gold Maple Leaf Single-Sourced coins come from the Meliadine mine. The operation focused on carefully extracting the mineral and segregating it so that the integrity of the gold remained preserved throughout the refining process, from the mine to the mint.
The RCM Bullion DNA
The Royal Canadian Mint applies modern techniques to protect its products against counterfeiting attempts. Besides the radial lines, serrated edges, and micro-engraved laser marks, the RCM Bullion DNA provides each coin with an encrypted string of codes registered in the company’s database and readable only through specific scanners.
