The Design of 1oz gold britannia

A 2015 depiction of Queen Elizabeth II stamps the coin’s obverse. Jody Clark designed an 89-year-old right profile of Her Majesty wearing George IV State Diadem Crown. The inscriptions around her bust read: “100 POUNDS” for the denomination, “ELIZABETH II,” and the letters “D. G. REG. F. D.” which means “By the grace of God, Queen” in Latin.

The Yale imprinted on the reverse side is a mythical creature symbolizing strong defense. Henri VIII chose it to support the Coat of Arms of his new wife, Jane Seymour. Along with the image, the engravings correspond to the coin’s weight, metal content, fineness, and mint year through the words “YALE OF BEAUFORT,” “1 oz,” “FINE GOLD,” “999.9.”
