The Design of 1 oz fine silver dollar

The coin’s obverse displays the Walking Liberty, originally created to be the Half-Dollar face in 1917 by Adolph A. Weinman. Lady Liberty represents the nation with the American flag draped on her shoulder. In the image, she walks towards the sun, carrying oak and olive branches in one arm. Her stretched arm seems to be a welcome sign for those looking for opportunities in this new land. The word “LIBERTY” arches over her, the year of issuance is on the bottom rim, while the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” lies aside.

The reverse design got an update for the 35th anniversary of the Series. The motif still showcases the an eagle, but in a more natural depiction, idealized by Emily Damstra. The Eagle seems to be flying and carrying an oak branch in its talons. Encircling the depiction, the inscriptions read “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.” On the bottom rim, read “ONE DOLLAR. 1 OZ. FINE SILVER,” standing for the coin’s face value, weight, and metal content. The motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM” lies above the weight engraving.
