Design of Buy 2023 1 oz American Gold
2023 marks the third issue of the new reverse design by Jennie Norris. Her innovative depiction of the bald eagle shows the bird’s head, its deep eyes earnestly looking ahead. Above the effigy is the inscription “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “IN GOD WE TRUST,” both mottos of the country. Surrounding the outer rim, the engravings read “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “50 DOLLARS 1 OZ. FINE GOLD”.
As for the obverse, since the program’s inception, the US Mint has used a revamped version of Lady Liberty from the discontinued $20 Double Eagle coin, designed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens still in the dawn of the 20th century. In this depiction, the Goddess of freedom, the personification of the ideals bestowed by the Founding Fathers, strides forward, a lit torch on her stretched right hand, guiding society through a path of enlightenment. Her left hand holds out an olive branch, symbolizing the country’s desire for peace.
Other interesting design elements include the Capitol Building on the lower left and the rising sun’s rays in the background. Six-pointed stars encircle the outer rim, and “LIBERTY” appears above Lady Liberty’s head.
